Believe it or not spring is finally here and once again it’s time to start thinking about getting your home ready for the summer. This time of year, everyone is starting to get the house ready to sell, starting DIY renovations, getting ready for family and friends to visit, or just looking to start their annual spring cleaning.

Many homeowners put a great deal of time and effort into sprucing up their homes for summer, putting a lot of sweat and hard work into cleaning it up and getting it ready. When this happens I am constantly amazed that although they ensure the windows are cleaned, the walls are scrubbed or painted, the furnace and ducts are cleaned, and the floors are washed and renewed, they think that simply vacuuming their carpets and upholstery is good enough.

You had the furnace and ducts cleaned for a reason. If there was a lot of dust in the house during the winter, then there is a lot of dust and particulate in the carpet as well, and simply vacuuming will not remove it all. On top of that, there are a great many chemicals and other contaminates that we drag in on our shoes and clothes every day. And don’t get me started on what your pets can add to the mix. Kids, stuck in the house during the winter, routinely spill, drop, and rub any number of things into the carpet while playing inside.

Have you noticed that dark area in front of the sofa? The one that doesn’t come out when you vacuum, and keeps getting darker as time goes by? That’s where you spend most of your time watching TV. That’s where all the coffee, tea, pop, buttery popcorn, etc. ends up during movie night.

Dye from your wet or damp nylons or socks can transfer to the carpet. New denim jeans or wet denim will sometimes transfer the blue dye onto your furniture as well, and it has to be professionally removed.

At the Cleaning Command we recommend you get your carpets cleaned annually. We should be your last call after all those walls are painted, the furnace is cleaned and the garden is planted. If anyone in the home has allergies or breathing problems it should be done every eight to nine months. With our all Natural, Hypo-allergenic cleaning solutions we help make the carpets clean, smelling fresh, and safe for your family and pets.

While vacuuming is the best way to maintain your carpets and upholstery year round, and we recommend you do it at least once a week, having your carpets and upholstery professionally cleaned annually is a must.
